What is your partnership with Bicester Village and why does it work so well?
Debrett's and Bicester are both champions of British style; Debrett's as the authority on etiquette, British tradition and formal events, and Bicester through the exceptional partner brands it supports and showcases. For this reason we have collaborated to create the Guide To British Style, exploring all things sartorial with a focus on the comprehensive rules of dressing throughout the Season.

What is the 'Guide To British Style'?
It is a beautiful pocket guide to style and the Season, deciphering dress codes and exploring the surprising origins of some Britain's most cherished and iconic items of clothing. It reveals everything that remains central to the British notion of style, from its heritage to both its craft and creativity – qualities that Debrett's has championed throughout its nearly 250-year history.

What is the tradition behind the Trooping the Colour?
Every year a military parade and march-past on Horse Guards Parade marks The Queen's official birthday in June. With military bands, colourful uniforms and impressive manoeuvres on horseback and foot, this display of pageantry is a hugely popular event. Though the Queen's real birthday is in April, she follows the tradition established by George II by celebrating a second time during the summer.

What is the dress code for ladies?
Formal dress is encouraged, and denim is not allowed. Those with tickets to the Queen's Birthday Parade may choose to wear formal daywear – typically a dress with a jacket or cover-up, or a skirt or trouser suit. Hats are optional but recommended in case of hot weather. No dress code is enforced for members of the public watching from the Mall, however.

What is the dress code for gentlemen?
Smart dress is encouraged, and denim is not allowed. Those with tickets to the Queen's Birthday Parade should wear either a morning suit, a lounge suit, or a jacket and trousers. No dress code is enforced for members of the public watching from the Mall, however.

What is the dress code for the Royal Family?
Members of the Royal Family will usually wear formal day dress or, for those who have served in the military or hold honorary ranks, uniform dress.

What is the dress code for the military?
Those members of the Household Division who take part in the ceremony wear dress uniform, the most formal military uniform. This varies according to regiment.
