What are you working on at the moment?
My new album, which comes out next week. It’s my 10th studio album and called Time Of My Life – I think it’s my best work.

When are you at your happiest?
With my wife in front of the fire watching the TV or a movie, with a glass of wine.

What is your greatest fear?
Failure is hard for me to deal with. Getting it wrong, making the wrong decisions, letting people down.

What is your earliest memory?
Holidays in Killarney, County Kerry, with my mum and dad.

What do you most dislike about yourself?
I wish I had stronger willpower.

Who has been your greatest influence?
My mum was a big influence on me growing up and also in my career. As a human being her words and ideas have stayed with me and been very important to me.

What is your most treasured possession?
A puzzle piece that I wear on a necklace. It’s not that it’s expensive or anything, I share it with my wife. She wears the other piece.

What trait do you most deplore in others?
Dishonesty.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
My nose. It turns up a little bit.

What is your favourite book?
I think that The Alchemist is one of those books that I’ll always go back to. It’s such a great lesson for life.

What is your favourite film?
It’s too tough, I’m a film buff. Everything from Shawshank Redemption to Star Wars to James Bond. I love films.

first-imp-590-2Ronan can’t stop thinking about: Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, a juicy ribeye steak and chips, tracks from Eagles Live and Star Wars

And your favourite piece of music?

Impossible for me; I get asked this a lot and I can’t answer it – too many records. I said to somebody Eagles Live because my brother had it on vinyl and we used to play it a lot in the house. It really influenced my music and my person. Maybe if I had to pick an album, Eagles Live.

What is your favourite meal?
Steak – ribeye, medium rare – and chips and a glass of wine.

Who would you most like to come to dinner?
You’ve got to have Bono, you’ve got to have Nelson Mandela. And my three children, my wife and my mum.

What is the nastiest thing anyone has ever said to you?
Someone once said that my career is more important. I’m not driven by success in that respect, I just kind of resented that a little bit because it’s not. My career is important to me but it’s not the most important thing to me.

Do you believe in aliens?
I definitely think there’s something else out there; I think we’re naive to think in this vast universe we’re the only ones.

What is your secret vice?
Red wine, but it’s not a secret. And golf.

Do you write thank-you notes?
Well we just got married, Storm and I, and we wrote 100 thankyou cards so that was a big deal. I will never forget that.

Which phrase do you most overuse?
‘Absolutely’.

A private jet.

That I want a private jet… I do yoga – it’s such a wonderful thing to do for your head as well as your body.
