All you home decorating and interiors questions answered
Q My husband has built a garden gate out of recycled planks. I would like to find some long, cast-iron strap hinges and a latch for it.
Anne Hyde, Nottingham

A Conquest Ironmongery supplies good-quality, cast-iron strap hinges, Norfolk and Suffolk thumb latches and ring latches. You will need two hinges for the gate, which should reach between one-third and halfway across its width. Conquest hinges range from 12in to 36in long; prices start from £88.

Q We recently saw a flat where the designer had cleverly let light into an internal bathroom by placing coloured glass bricks between the ceiling and the partition wall. We would like some but don’t know where to buy them. Have you any leads?

Q I have inherited a crystal-glass chandelier, which is probably Victorian, and I would like to have it repaired as it’s missing quite a few drops.

A G&P Cohn has been restoring chandeliers for 60 years, so has amassed quite a collection of old parts. The company is in King’s Cross – you could go and rummage there or send them a photo and ask for a quote for repair and advice on the value of your piece.
