Just a stone's throw from King's Cross and St. Pancras stations, London's latest Korean eatery has recently opened its second restaurant nestled in the middle of the newly redeveloped Pancras Square.
Kimchee Launched its first restaurant in 2011 when founder Dong Hyun Kim noticed a gap in the market for good quality Korean food at a reasonable price. They offer a range of meats, fish and vegetables marinated with authentic Korean flavours, cooked on a traditional charcoal grill, as well as a wide range of delicious starters and sides to complete any meal.
The Gourmet Girls were invited to the new Kimchee on a warm Saturday evening, on approach to the restaurant the area felt modern and tranquil with urban green spaces and beautiful water features. The restaurant interior was sleek and stylish, the contemporary feel complimented the authentic Korean features perfectly and the slightly dim lighting created a great ambiance.

The Waitress recommended that we shared dishes in a tapas style, so for our starters we decided to order three dishes and share. We went for the Yang Yeum chicken (Lightly battered chicken in a sweet chilli sauce, served in a rice cake basket), Chargrilled Pork Buns and Pork Mandu (Deep fried pork dumplings served with a soy dipping sauce). Each starter was lovely and light which was surprising since we ordered some dishes which had the potential to be greasy. In particular we loved the Pork buns, the meat was lovely and tender and the buns were fluffy.

For our mains we had Chicken Udon (Stir-fried thick noodles and vegetables with sliced breaded chicken), Salmon Gui (Salmon drizzled with Korean barbecue sauce, served with lemon, wilted spinach and broccoli) and Mild Chicken Bulgogi (mild chicken marinated in a blend of ginger and Korean dark soy). We thoroughly enjoyed the Udon, the noodles were sticky and soft we just wished that we had ordered more of it! The Bulgogi was also lovely but we recommend you order some rice or vegetables to go alongside it. Finally the Salmon Gui had a very delicate flavor, and although we found it to be a little bland, it was still pleasant.

For our desserts we shared two traditional Korean dishes, Chap Ssal Ddeok (Traditional soft chocolate rice cake with a light dusting of cocoa powder) and Patbingsu (A popular Korean crushed ice dessert – seasonal fresh fruits and red beans served on crushed ice with your choice of ice cream). The Chap Ssal Ddeok was the most indescribable texture we had ever come across and the flavor was rich a chocolatey, we would recommend trying it if you are in the mood to experience something different. We paired the Patbingsu with almond ice cream and it was gorgeously fresh yet sweet, we would highly recommend this dessert you want something light for your after's.
To accompany the meal they have a great selection of cocktails including some traditional Korean cocktails which are definitely worth a try.
