New Beckett Play to be performed in pitch dark
A new production of Samuel Beckett's 'All That Fall' will be performed in a pitch black auditorium; the lights turned off and black-out blinds installed. The text was originally a radio play and Beckett himself described it as 'a text written to come out of the dark'. Stafford Clark, the director, is taking this description literally as the performance will place seven actors within the midst of the audience, but the audience will only be able to hear them. 'All That Fall' is a tale of an elderly woman who sets off to meet her husband at the train station but has a series of encounters along the way. The play will be performed in this year's Enniskillen International Beckett Festival, which runs in Northern Ireland from July 23rd to August 3rd.
London tapas restaurant to open in Spain
The Spanish foods restaurant 'Brindisa Spanish Kitchens' is about to open a restaurant in Barcelona, the first of this branch in Spain. Monika Linton, the founder of the restaurant, discovered her passion for Spanish food while teaching English in the same city where his restaurant is about to open. The restaurant will open just down the road from La Boqueria, one of the world's best food markets. Monika stated that 'for us, one of the incentives to open in this location was having this amazing variety of ingredients on our doorstep'. The restaurant will open in a converted 15thC chapel overlooking a tree-lined square. The proximity to the food market will inspire Catalan based dishes within the restaurant, setting the theme for the traditional aspect of the restaurant as a whole.
Desmond Tutu and Dalai Lama to collaborate on new book
Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu will collaborate on publ9ishing a new series of dialogues on finding the 'real inner joyfulness'. Later this month, the two Nobel peace laureate will meet in Dharamsala where, according the publisher Hutchinson, they will spend five days 'in deep dialogue and playful laughter as they share their experience of how to find joy in the face of life's challenges' as well as celebrating Dalai Lama's 80th birthday. The discussion that will take place, along with comments from members of the public, will form the basis of the series. In an announcement of the publication, Dalai Lama stated that 'the ultimate source of happiness is within us' and that it is 'not money, not power, not status' as they 'fail to bring us inner peace'.
Peter Dundas announced as new Cavalli creative director
The Italian fashion label Cavalli has announced Peter Dundas will become the new creative director. This move has been widely predicted by the by the fashion industry as at Dundas' last collection for Pucci he took a bow with the rest of his design team. Although no formal announcement was made, it was assumed that this implied Dundas was playing tribute to those he had worked with and handing over the reign. Dundas will bring in a new, more modern perspective to the fashion label and a priceless endorsement of his crown. It is currently unclear as to what role Robert Cavalli, now 74, will play in the new structure, but Dundas' chair at Pucci seems set for Italian designer Marco Zanini.
British women both make finals at European gymnastics
Both Claudia Fragapane and Ellie Downie qualified for the all-around final at the European Gymnastics Championships in Montpellier. Great Britain also has a maximum of two athletes in all five finals with Becky Downie and Amy Tinkler also qualifying for medal events. This leads to the statistic that Great Britain's women have a chance to win ten medals at these events. Ellie Downie stated that it was her best all-round score and that she was not expecting it at all, as she receive 56.19, qualifying in 3rd place, while her close friend Claudia Fragapane came fifth with a score of 55.031. Fragapane is thought to have scored higher, having gained four gold medals at last summer's Commonwealth Games, if not for her errors on floor and uneven bars. The individual apparatus finals will take place over Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
