Cats in Hats

Whether your feline friend will wear one or not, these hats created by Sara Thomas are purr genius
It’s very easy for me to pinpoint where my love of cats and knitting came from: my admiration for my grandmother. She lived in a two-storey craftsmanstyle house in Nashville, Tennessee, with lots of cats and lots of yarn. We’d visit her regularly, and she would regale us with stories of her childhood growing up in Germany. During those tales she’d often be knitting, sometimes making a sweater in a weekend.

Those weekend visits were full of inspiration for me. I love the magic that can be created with yarn and two needles, and when I started Scooter Knits on Etsy in March 2009, I was fulfilling a dream. The first cat hat I made was when I adopted my first kitten, Dorothy. After sewing her a tiny T-shirt and making her a tiny house, a tiny hat seemed like the natural next step for this selfprofessed cat lady. I’ve captured so many great moments of my cats wearing their hats over the years, and I hope you do, too.

Unlike the cats in my book, not all felines want to model millinery. If yours don’t want to, don’t force them! And never let them go outside, or leave them unsupervised, when wearing your creation.
