FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Jack Fox

…is an English actor and the son of James Fox. He is best known for his roles in Beast, Theeb, and Kids In Love. He is currently appearing in the West End production of Dear Lupin with his father.
What are you working on at the moment?
Dear Lupin, which is a play about a father and son, with my old man. It’s just the two of us.

When are you at your happiest?
When I’m surrounded by my nieces, nephews and family.

What is your greatest fear?
To love someone and not be loved back. That would be a really awful thing.

What is your earliest memory?
We had a dog called Bruno, which I remember very, very vividly going to pick with my mother.

What do you most dislike about yourself?
I can have a loud voice at times, louder than other people’s.

Who has been your greatest influence?
My dad. He’s an impeccable dad and I learn things from him every day.

What is your most treasured possession?
I have a lot of books. I have a copy of The Catcher In The Rye from when I was about 11 years old that I carry everywhere I go, and which I love. I don’t know what that says about me.

What trait do you most deplore in others?
Probably having a loud voice! It’s one of those things where it’s classically whatever you have as your main trait is what you don’t like in other people. People in glasshouses shouldn’t throw stones.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
I snapped my arm in five places when I was younger, and I have a lump on my arm that I don’t particularly like. I did it playing hockey.

What is your favourite book?
The Catcher In The Rye. I really like anything by Malcolm Gladwell, too. I think he’s really smart.

What is your favourite film?
Lawrence Of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago and Jerry Maguire.

Q A-Sept11-02-590

And your favourite piece of music?

Bruce Springsteen – anything from Unplugged.

What is your favourite meal?
My mother’s spaghetti Bolognese. She knocks it out of the park.

Who would you most like to come to dinner?
Abraham Lincoln, Leonardo da Vinci, Marie Curie and Louis Armstrong.

What is the nastiest thing anyone has ever said to you?
‘You will never achieve anything.’ A teacher at school said that to me once.

Do you believe in aliens?
I like to think that there’s life somewhere else. But I don’t know if aliens would be the word I’d pick. I love Men In Black as much as the next guy.

What is your secret vice?
I’m addicted to Haribo, it’s not even funny. The Tangfastics. I’ve got a problem. I’ve got a massive sweet tooth.

Do you write thank-you notes?
Always. Without fail. I have to do it otherwise I’m reprimanded. I’m crap at responding to fan mail though, terrible at it.

Which phrase do you most overuse?
‘In your opinion’.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
Seeing more of my friends and family.

Tell us one thing people might not know about you.
I used to be a magician. My trademark trick was anything with cards.

‘We couldn’t find Jack Fox, so here is where we lay some of his possessions’.
