The power of leaving a gift to charity

You can help discover the next breakthrough in treatment for one of the UK's single biggest killers, says its chief executive Kate Bratt-Farrar
As we navigate the golden years of our lives, many of us start to reflect on the legacies we will leave behind. We cherish memories, relationships, and the impact we have had on the world. For those of us with a history of giving, the idea of leaving a lasting legacy can be both poignant and powerful. One of the most profound ways to extend your legacy of compassion and care is by including a gift in your Will to Heart Research UK.

Heart diseases remain one of the leading causes of death in the UK, yet with every advancement in medical research, prevention and treatment the possibility of saving many more lives grows ever closer.

By choosing to support Heart Research UK in your Will, you are not only contributing to groundbreaking research, but ensuring that future generations can enjoy longer, healthier lives. This act of kindness transcends time, allowing your passion for life and wellbeing to continue flourishing even after you're gone.

The process of writing or revising a will to include a gift to Heart Research UK is a thoughtful opportunity to ensure your wishes are respected and that vital research into lifesaving treatment can continue to thrive.

Many people find peace of mind in knowing their estate will support not only their family and friends but the broader community. It's a harmonious balance of caring for those you love and helping to champion the broader cause.

By leaving a gift to Heart Research UK in your Will you can have more control over your money - and save quite a hefty bill to the taxman. If your estate is worth over £325,000, the executors of your Will may have to pay inheritance tax at a rate of 40%. If you leave 10% or more of your estate to charity in your Will, the remainder of the estate will be taxed at a reduced rate of 36%.

When Heart Research UK started over 50 years ago more than 70% of heart attacks ended in death, but today at least 70% of people survive. Despite these great achievements we still have far to go to prevent, treat and cure heart disease - it is one of the UK's single biggest killers.
A gift in your Will is more than just money - it's life, hope and health for future generations.

Our mission
Every five minutes someone dies from heart diseases in the UK, and it's likely they will impact your life one day, if they haven't already. We need to tackle this problem head on, and we need to start today. Our work focuses on developing lifesaving medical research to find new treatments and cures, delivering ground-breaking training and education, and helping communities to improve their heart health. We won't stop, until there are no more deaths from heart diseases.
