School's Back For Summer

Relishing the chance to do something different and delight in the social side of life again? Marlborough College Summer School is your ideal staycation

Marlborough College’s much-loved Summer School returns from 11 July to 7 August 2021, with more than 500 courses and a wealth of entertainment for all ages. Enjoy a stress-free staycation with family and friends, develop a skill or an interest or relax while the children are amused for a week; this unique event offers something for everyone. New additions to the 2021 course programme range from topical titles such as Mankind Versus the Planet and State of Emergency to practical courses on Basic Bike Maintenance. You can discover the History of the Motor Car, enjoy Painting in Acrylics or even explore Inside the Mind of a Murderer! Besides outdoor favourites such as Horse Riding and Mountain Biking, new courses for young people are equally diverse, encompassing everything from Calligraphy to Building Resilience.

Marilyn McGee from Corsham, who has been enjoying courses at Marlborough for 23 years, says, ‘I have learned so many new skills and more knowledge of various subjects. I can thoroughly recommend Summer School to anyone. Why do I keep coming back? You are never too old to learn something new!’ After postponing the 2020 event, the Summer School team are delighted to be back on sale and giving both familiar and first-time attendees something to look forward to, whether booking solo or as part of a group. Richard Ellison of Stafford is a less seasoned guest. ‘When I arrived, it was a completely new experience for me and I loved it,’ he says. ‘If you are attending alone you are rarely without company. There’s always someone to talk to.’
Sarah Cliff from Petersfield took her first life drawing class while on holiday with three generations of her family. She says: ‘Summer School gave me the opportunity to enjoy time focused on developing my practice while the rest of the family were off exploring their interests.’

Summer School director John Blake explains: ‘Like Marilyn, Richard and Sarah, many of our guests return year after year to renew friendships and enjoy the company of like-minded people. After we’ve all spent so much time at home over the past year, Summer School is going to be a wonderful opportunity to reunite with others. Or perhaps, in the case of parents and grandparents, a chance to enjoy some much needed “me-time” while we entertain the children for you!’ Rest assured that Marlborough College will operate in line with government guidelines in place at the time of Summer School to ensure the wellbeing of all guests and colleagues. Additionally, if covid-19 means your plans need to change, you can request a refund at any time up to and including 30 June 2021 without losing your deposit.
