Top foundations for fair skin

As summer tans fade and autumn creeps up, beauty blogger Lucy Chappell gives us her go-to foundations for those English rose complexions.
lucy SmallBeing very much on the pale side myself, and having even being called 'Casper the Friendly Ghost', I think I know a thing or two about foundations. A good pale foundation is one that doesn't oxidize throughout the day and matches your neck in every light without the colour washing you out completely.

Nars Sheer Glow foundation, £31
Perfect for any type of skin, Nars advise to apply the foundation with your fingers for best results, but the Zoeva 104 Buffer Brush or any other buffer brush also does the trick. The coverage is buildable, so it's good for work or a night on the town. This foundation is great with their paler shades; I've personally been matched with 'Light 2 - Mont Blanc' as my skin is warmer, but if you have cooler skin you should opt for the lightest shade. Despite being a more pricey foundation the bottle will last about 4 months so it's a justifiable splurge.

Marc Jacobs 'Remarcable' foundation, £37
This foundation offers two shades of interest to pale skin. 'Ivory Light 10' for cooler undertones, and 'Ivory 12' if your skin is slightly warmer is recommended. The foundation is water based, so women with dry skin may find it a little flaky. A tip also is to not use it if your moisturizer is oil based, as oil and water don't mix and you will find it wont blend evenly. The packaging has an eyedropper-like feature that means the product will less likely become contaminated with bacteria over time, which can sometime cause you to break out.

Too Faced 'Born This Way' foundation, £31.20
This foundation boasts to be undetectable, but personally I think it's impossible for a full coverage foundation to be undetectable on the skin, if you want that you're better off looking for a CC cream as they're a thinner formula. It does however apply very well with a beauty sponge instead of a brush. The shade 'snow' is the best for a pale woman. It's great for blocking out redness and other imperfections, and while being full coverage it doesn't feel overly heavy or cakey if you apply it in layers. This foundation is best if you're into highlighting and contouring as it's very blendable.

Maybelline New York 'Dream Velvet' foundation, £7.99
This is one for the girls that prefer a more matte finish. For matte foundations at an affordable price this is far the best. Dewy foundations are preferable on pale skin because they add more life, but when looking especially oily a matte foundation balances the skin out nicely. The formula is a bit wet feeling, so it is best to apply with a sponge and then setting with your favourite powder. Go for 'Classic Ivory' on warmer skin tones and 'Creamy Natural' for warmer.
