Top ways to enjoy the modern fruitcake

Jane Stammers of Tipple Tails shows us the top modern ways to enjoy this traditional cake
When I created Tipple Tails, my aim was not only to provide delicious tasting cakes, made with local quality produce, but also to present them in a contemporary, attractive way and introduce a modern twist with the different flavours and award-winning liqueurs, to appeal to today's modern consumers for a multitude of different occasions. Here are my Top 5 ways to enjoy fruit cake – I would love to hear if you have any to add!

1. Afternoon Tea
A tradition so ingrained in our culture and one of great importance – an afternoon cup of tea and a slice of fruit cake – this still has to be one of the best ways to enjoy fruit cake!

If you are more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker, all of our fruit cakes, infused with award-winning English Pudding liqueurs make great accompaniments to a coffee –whatever time of day ... no need to wait for afternoon tea to enjoy your fruit cake!

2. Not just in Yorkshire...
Eating fruit cake with cheese is commonplace in Yorkshire but is becoming more and more popular all over the UK. The origins come from Fruit Cake & Cheese being a traditional miner's packed lunch, as the cake and the cheese keep each other fresh. A Kirkham's Lancashire Cheese goes beautifully with most fruit cakes, but is a particular winning combination with the 2 Star Great Taste award-winning Ginger Tingle Fruit Cake.

3. Eating al fresco...
Whether it be afternoon tea in the garden, a picnic in the countryside, or a hamper at a festival/outdoor concert – the occasion isn't complete without a cake! Our fruit cakes in tins are ideal – really easy to pack and transport without the cake being damaged and our individually wrapped minis are ideal for single serve portions.

4. Wine & Champagne
Whether drinking a glass of rose with the Cherry Orchard Fruit Cake or a glass of prosecco with a slice of Coco Bazaar fruit cake, this really elevates the fruit cake to a truly special eating occasion. For a truly warming occasion a tipple of rum goes perfectly with the Cinnamon Pippin fruit cake!

5. Gifting
The giving of food and drink - the stuff of life - is an ancient custom and even the most humble of these domestic offerings can be made unique in the way that it is presented. Whether it's to say Thank You, a Get Well Gift, Welcome to your New Home – a hand-made fruit cake in a tin, with a hand-written gift card, really does make a delightful present and will put a smile on someone's face.
