Vet On The Hill

This London vet is a pet owner’s dream
Ben-Felsenburg-colour-176He’s the golden-haired dreamboat who’s come from the other side of the world to answer pet owners’ prayers in southwest London. Those who pass through the doors of the Richmond practice of the Vet On The Hill (Monday, More4, 9pm) know that they’re in the best possible hands with Brisbane-born Scott Miller taking care of their loved ones. He not only has the medical skill but also the sensitivity to recognise how much each animal means to their family. For Victoria, a lady who has paw prints tattooed on her arm, her 13-year-old Chihuahua Buppy is her entire world. Now she must deal with the difficulties of managing Buppy’s diabetes, but Miller’s doing all he can to make sure that the dog has the fullest and longest life possible.

Aided by his nursing team led by the formidable Emma, Miller cares for many different animals, but perhaps the most remarkable creature of all is his oldest charge, a 21-year-old cat called Rudi. Though in cat years Rudi is a centenarian, she proves to be a remarkably hardy individual – and as a lesson in longevity she’s impressive even by the standards of owner Jesse Wood’s father Ronnie (of Rolling Stones fame). Ever ebullient but also absolutely frank in telling owners the unvarnished truth, Miller is possessed of an uncommonly simpatico bedside manner. Perhaps it helps that at home he has Betty the Border Terrier, Dave the English Pointer-Cross and Rickets the cat to care for.
