London's best luxury hotel restaurants

Ormer at Fleming’s, Mayfair

Where: Flemings Mayfair, 7-12 Half Moon St, London W1J 7BH, 020 7016 5601, www.flemings-mayfair.co.uk

Why: Fleming’s Mayfair, a boutique hotel dating back to 1731 sets the scene for the quintessentially British Ormer Mayfair. Newly furbished Ormer, headed by chef Shaun Rankin, offers a menu inclusive of carefully sourced, fresh British ingredients.  Among an opulent wood panelled and plush seated dining setting (designed by Tully Filmer), the extensive wine lists invites you in for a comfortably ambient evening. The Jersey coastline-inspired dishes on the a la carte are as tasty as they are beautifully presented- order the smoking Jersey Lobster with avocado, garlic butter and dressed crab for reference. Seafood is something Rankin, previous head chef at Michelin-starred Bohemia in Jersey, knows how to get right and the hand divided scallop starter is testament. There’s both a vegetarian and vegan menu with seasonal vegetables on offer, too, and if you can’t manage one of their fantastically rich puddings for dessert, head straight to the Manetta bar for an art deco inspired cocktail.

Ella Canta at the Intercontinental Park Lane

Where: One Hamilton Place, Park Ln, Mayfair, London W1J 7QY, 020 7318 8715, www.ellacanta.com

Why: Authentic Mexican dishes with colourful twists- both literally and figuratively. Chef Martha Oritz brings a taste of her home country to this glamorous Park Lane restaurant with inventive flavours both on the a la carte and cocktail list. The guacamole with ricotta cheese, pomegranate seeds (garnished with a gold grasshopper) is a menu highlight, while the octopus with smoked chile sauce and burnt onion are deemed unmissable. The colourfully bohemian David Collins Studio interiors transport you straight to Mexico City-sit comfortably amongst aloe vera plants, ceramic skulls and gilded wall ornaments whilst sipping a sweet Yu-ka t’ann.

The Colony Grill Room at The Beaumont

Where: The Beaumont, 8 Balderton Street, Brown Hart Gardens, London W1K 6TN, 020 7499 9499, www.colonygrillroom.com

Why: You can’t discuss London’s luxury hotel restaurant history without the mention of giants Corbin and King. With The Wolesley, The Delaunay and more already on their roster, The Beaumont was only an appropriate addition. An elegant brasserie with interiors reminiscent of an old gentleman’s-club, the glamorous Colony Grill Room invites guests to enjoy classic American dishes. The grilled cheese sandwich served with a dill pickle or Colony hamburger is only to be enjoyed with a tall glass of cold clamato (yes, clam and tomato) juice- true timeless American fare. Indulge in the red velvet or the ‘damn good’ chocolate tart for dessert. At a reasonable price point, The Colony Grill Room won’t burn a hole in your pocket, but you won’t see many price-conscious millennials dining either.

Fera at Claridge’s

Where: Claridge’s, Brook St, London W1K 4HR, 020 7107 8888, www.claridges.co.uk

Why: In the heart of London’s iconic Claridge’s hotel lies an upscale eatery in an art deco setting- Fera. Headed by chef Simon Rogan, whom opened L’Enclume in Cumbria back in 2002, Fera’s menu compromises of locally sourced ingredients with dishes that echo sentiments of the natural world. The best part about the exclusively natural menu: the taste is undeniable. Textures and flavours come together in an unusually perfect way- dine on things like stewed rabbit with lovage, Portland crab with pickled alexanders and miners lettuce, and Cornish hoggit accompanied by hispi cabbage and dill. The experience is a breath of fresh country air in an opulent Mayfair dining room.
