Where: Flemings Mayfair, 7-12 Half Moon St, London W1J 7BH, 020 7016 5601, www.flemings-mayfair.co.uk
Why: Fleming’s Mayfair, a boutique hotel dating back to 1731 sets the scene for the quintessentially British Ormer Mayfair. Newly furbished Ormer, headed by chef Shaun Rankin, offers a menu inclusive of carefully sourced, fresh British ingredients. Among an opulent wood panelled and plush seated dining setting (designed by Tully Filmer), the extensive wine lists invites you in for a comfortably ambient evening. The Jersey coastline-inspired dishes on the a la carte are as tasty as they are beautifully presented- order the smoking Jersey Lobster with avocado, garlic butter and dressed crab for reference. Seafood is something Rankin, previous head chef at Michelin-starred Bohemia in Jersey, knows how to get right and the hand divided scallop starter is testament. There’s both a vegetarian and vegan menu with seasonal vegetables on offer, too, and if you can’t manage one of their fantastically rich puddings for dessert, head straight to the Manetta bar for an art deco inspired cocktail.
