Look younger

...and feel younger. Yes, it is possible, with a little help from the latest products, along with some helpful tips

PROTECT

Looking after your skin is important year round, but especially during the hotter summer months when stronger UV rays can cause damage to your complexion.

The basis of any good routine is to cleanse, moisturise and protect. Pond’s Cold Cream (6) has been keeping faces squeaky clean yet soft for more than 150 years. All you need to do is massage in a coin-sized amount, and then watch as the day’s grime dissolves. £4.49 at Boots: 0845-070 8090, www.boots.com

It may seem counter-intuitive, but exfoliation can actually help enhance a tan. Gently scrub away the dry, dull skin cells and you will uncover a new, smoother and more glowing layer. REN Micro Polish Cleanser (8) is gentle enough to use a few times a week. £20 at Space NK: 020-8740 2085, uk.spacenk.com

‘Usually our skin feels less dry in the summer so it may well need a less creamy moisturiser,’ says beauty expert and founder of Good Things Skincare, Alice Hart-Davis. ‘If your skin goes shiny at the drop of a hat, you might ? nd a mattifying moisturiser a helpful option.’ The Good Things Miracle Matti?fier (2) keeps skin hydrated but shine-free. £7.99 at Boots: as before.

A facial self-tanner can amp up your summer glow, and formulations have come a long way from that dreaded orange hue. Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanning (9) is perfect for adding a bit of colour to face and décolleté. £19 at John Lewis: 0345-604 9049, www.johnlewis.com

A good daily moisturiser should contain an SPF, but most people need extra protection on sunny days. La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Fluid (3) is moisturising yet light, and packs a huge SPF 50+ to keep the harmful effects of UV rays at bay. £16.50 at Escentual: 02920-008844, www.escentual.com

PERFECT

If you’re hot and sticky, it can be tempting to do away with make-up. Yet it needn’t take much to ensure you look groomed.

‘Most women just want to look well,’ says Arabella Preston, make-up artist and Pond’s Institute Ambassador. ‘Looking well means having healthy, glowing skin. Your skin is e¡ ectively your canvas, and your make-up is only ever as good as that.’

A light and easy option for creating an even base during the summer is a tinted moisturiser. NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (4) provides good coverage and sun protection. £29 at Selfridges: 0800-123400, www.selfridges.com

Multitasking products are a good option to speed up application. Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge (7) can be used to add a youthful flush to cheeks and a hint of colour to lips. £19 at John Lewis: as before.

To complete your look, use eyebrow pencil and mascara to frame your face. Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In- Place Brow Lift Duo (5) is a favourite (‘It has a nice, soft, waxy texture so you can’t really go wrong,’ says Arabella) while Diorshow New Look Mascara (1) will really open up your eyes. £19 and £24.50 respectively, at House of Fraser: 0845-602 1073, www.houseoffraser.co.uk
