The Daily: February 14
Jane Percy, Duchess of Northumberland and mother to Pippa Middleton's former lover, George Percy, intends to create a new sensuous breakfast treat that will not only titillate the taste buds, but also the body, a notion, which was sparked by her discovery of an 800 year old recipe for an aphrodisiac marmalade in the dungeon of Alnwik Castle. According to the ancient scrolls, quince is the 'magic' catalytic ingredient to arouse libidinal desire; it has become synonymous with the food of love because of its pink tone, sweet aroma, and plentiful seeds and allegedly has been administered to Queen Mary I to encourage fertility. Furthermore the ancient Greeks deemed it the fruit of Aphrodite, while medieval scholars identified it as the forbidden apple that enticed Eve in the Garden of Eden. The Duchess aspires to not only distribute this erotic indulgence in major supermarkets, but also publish a book on her findings.
Currents of thought, the secrets of the sea
U.S. researchers have discovered that a wide array of imperceptible sea bacteria operate as a homogenous unit akin to an aquatic 'megamind'. The synergy within this myriad of picoplankton allows the various species to react in harmony to mutations in the environment, resembling the working dynamic of the different cells within human physiology. If one set of organisms were creating energy through photosynthesis, which would subsequently release carbon dioxide, another set of microbes would register this chemical reaction and respond accordingly to absorb the carbon dioxide. The collective functioning of this community of marine microbes proves their existence is codependent, and thus explains why they are so difficult to cultivate in the lab.
Neurons Actually
Love Actually was voted the most romantic film in a recent poll, while The Notebook scooped second place, and animation Wall-E came in third. Neuropsychologist, Dr David Lewis, avers that viewers experience the physical intimacy of the movie vicariously through the galvanization of cerebral 'mirror' neurons. He also claims that such filmic voyeurism can induce an onrush of adrenaline, intensifying sexual chemistry between partners, since they associate the frisson of excitement ignited by the film with the presence of their partners. Consequently Love Actually rated the highest due to the intertwinement of multiple relationship plotlines.
Seeing Double
Experts have declared that Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece may not be unique, since a youthful replica of Mona Lisa was unveiled last year. The Swiss based art foundation used carbon dating, which displaced rumours that it was a later copy of the original that was painted in 1516, and has been on display in the Louvre in Paris for the last three centuries. Its authenticity has also been corroborated by geometric specialist, who claims the proportions correspond with the human figures of Da Vinci's work.
Spasm of the ectoplasm, the sepulchral buzz aboard the HSS Hornet
Paranormal fanatics, who call themselves the Chill Seekers, filmed their exploration of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, the HSS Hornet, which is anchored in Alameda, California. The 12 minute video apparently documents the ectoplasm announcing that 'we are under attack' and admonishing them to 'get off the ship'. The ghost busters attribute the mysterious tapping sounds in the recording with Morse code, initiated by the IT technicians, who were aboard the vessel that was used in World war two and the Apollo 11 space mission, in which 300 people died.
