'Over 60s' cafe created, and Britain's best fish & chip shops
Nana, a comfort food and craft cafe, has just opened in Clapton, East London. Customers can expect a menu of heart-warming, affordable food, cooked and served by its volunteer staff of over 60s who are putting a lifetime of cooking skills to good use. The volunteers are on the cusp of being socially isolated, so the project aims to bring them together to participate in cooking and craft classes in knitting, crocheting, embroidery and sewing.

It seems as though comfort food is on the rise, as the National Fish & Chip awards announce Quayside in Whitby, North Yorkshire, as it's fisn'n'chip shop of the year. Frankie's Fish & Chips in Brae, Shetland, came second place, while Papa's Barn in Kent came third.

New river dolphin species has been discovered in Brazil
Scientists in Brazil have discovered the first new river dolphin species since the end of World War I. The Araguala river dolphin, named after the river in which it was found, is the only fifth known of its kind in the world. There are believed to be around 1,000 of them living in the Araguala river basin. River dolphins are notoriously rare – until now, there were only four known species, with three of them being on the Red List, which marks them as being critically endangered. The new discoveries have long beaks, which allow them to hunt for fish deep down in the mud at the bottom of rivers, and they are closely linked to the Amazonian river dolphin, which is said to be the most intelligent of all the river species.

Coronation Street's Hayley earns a National Television Award
Following her recent storyline involving a terminal cancer diagnosis and subsequent suicide, television favourite Julie Hesmondhalgh has been awarded a coveted National Television Award for 'best serial drama performance'. She fended off competition from Eastenders and Emmerdale to scoop the award. On hearing the news of her victory, she insisted her co-star David Neilson, who plays Roy Cropper, joined her on stage for her speech. She said: "we said that if either of us were lucky enough to get this tonight, we'd come up together because there ain't no Hayley without Roy and there ain't no Roy without Hayley." The actress, who played the popular transsexual Hayley Cropper, said the award had had a huge impact: "I think at the end of my life when it's all flashing in front of me, this week will feature quite heavily to be honest, it has been the most incredible week of my life".

17-year old Honduran boy becomes highest ever Countdown scorer
Dylan Taylor, a 17-year old who fled his native Honduras with his parents after Hurricane Mitch left much of the country devastated in 1998, has beaten the previous Countdown record by nine points- becoming the show's highest ever scorer. Taylor, who now lives in Cheshire, made it to the final but did not win the series due to his competitor beating him in the conundrum round. However, he has scored a total of 974 throughout the duration of the show, meaning the teenager, who has autism, comfortably holds the record for the highest score. Rachel Riley, the show's co-presenter, described him as 'Countdown's answer to One Direction'.

Going to Scotland? You may need to pack your passport
If Scottish voters vote 'yes' for independence from Great Britain on 18th September, visitors to the country could face passport checks on their return to England. If travelling by road, they will face the checks at Berwick. Those travelling by train may face similar checks to those used on Eurostar journeys when boarding a train from Scotland to England. The checks have not yet been confirmed, but if independence is granted this autumn, and said checks are introduced, it could affect tens of millions of journeys each year. The border is currently crossed by 21 roads and two railway lines, and officials are concerned that without the implementation of border checks, the country will become a 'backdoor' to England for migrants who had been granted a Scottish visa by Alex Salmond, Scotland's First Minister.
