A Taking inspiration from one of London’s most interesting places, the newly renovated Sir John Soane’s Museum in Lincoln’s Inn Fields – 020-7405 2107, www.soane.org – I suggest you place them on small wooden carved corbels. Andy Thornton sells small acanthus scrolls and Gothic corbel supports (1) which are easily fixed to the wall and can be painted to fit in with the decor.

Q I am looking for a smart and original wall light for my conservatory. Do you know where I could find one?

A Heathfield & Co Creative Lighting makes a wall sconce in the shape of a leaf (2) either in an oiled bronze (£91.60), nickel (£85.35) or fancy gold finish (£139.45).

Q My husband is in a wheelchair and we asked a company to visit to see whether we can fit in a stairlift. Our stairs turn round right-angled corners, so this precludes fitting one. The company does not sell other types of lifts so can you suggest somewhere else I could try?
LV, Warwickshire
A Terry Lifestyle Lifts will install a lift on two straight rails through a modest hole in the ceiling. The rails and interior of the Harmony lift, which will take a wheelchair, can be matched to the colour of your walls. You will need to get a builder to quote for making an opening in the ceiling.

Q I am looking for extra chairs that I could use both outside and in, at table. They mustn’t be heavy, and folding office chairs just wouldn’t look smart.

A The Spice Bistro Chair (3) (from £80, by Heal’s), based on those old slatted wooden folding cricket chairs, is able to make the transition from al fresco dining to kitchen supper. Nowadays many natural pine kitchen tables are surrounded by all types and colours of chairs.
