HOME HELP: 25 October

All you home decorating and interiors questions answered
Q In my new house the radiators are boxed in with plywood – the radiators themselves don’t look great either. Should I get new covers or will they block heat?
PP, Nottingham

A Radiator covers can improve ežfficiency by driving heat into the room – much of the heat from a single radiator goes up the wall. B&Q and Homebase sell covers, but their lower price re€flects their quality. A well-made, bespoke cover not only maximises air€ flow around the radiator but will also enhance a room. Relics Of Witney makes bespoke covers; you can choose one of its designs or supply your own. Prices start at £110 and come in a choice of Farrow & Ball paints, or you can paint your own. In that case, I recommend spraying the paint to penetrate the grille.
