Levant Mine and Beam Engine, Cornwall
Levant Mine has a wealth of interesting history as a copper and tin mining site, with some artefacts dating right back to the Bronze Age. Now cared for by the National Trust this World Heritage site has the only beam engine anywhere in the world that is still in steam on its original mine site - perfect for dads with an interest in engineering. In 1939 Lord and Lady Bearsted vacated Upton, allowing the family-owned merchant bank to move in and escape the London air-raids. The evacuated staff set up a typing pool and canteen in the Long Gallery surrounded by Upton's great art collection. Discover the stories of the family and workers on Dudmaston estate both past and present with the 'Unheard Voices' film installation, and browse objects in the galleries which bring the estate's past to life in unexpected ways. Outside, the gardens are bursting with life from the colourful herbaceous border to the perfumed rose garden. The American garden will be in full bloom, with rhododendron magnolias, eucryphias and azaleas stealing the show.

Surface remains of Levant Mine Upton House and Gardens, Warwickshire
In 1939 Lord and Lady Bearsted vacated Upton, allowing the family-owned merchant bank to move in and escape the London air-raids. The evacuated staff set up a typing pool and canteen in the Long Gallery surrounded by Upton's great art collection. This year, the house has been transformed back to how it would have looked in 1939, with rooms re-created to reflect the time. Treat your dad to a memorable day out, where he can experience wartime history in the house before exploring the sweeping lawns, tumbling terraces and colourful borders outside.
Vintage Transport Weekend, 18 - 19 June, 11am - 4pm
For the second year, Upton will have a fascinating display of vintage vehicles along the driveway and music on the terrace, complementing the work that has been done to transform Upton House back to the way it looked during World War II.
