Brimham Rocks, North Yorkshire

Chedworth Roman Villa, Gloucestershire
Chedworth Roman Villa was home to some of the richest people in the country during its heyday in the 4th century. Take Dad back in time and visit the intriguing ruins of one of the largest Romano-British villas in the country. Legio II Augusta, a premier Roman re-enactment group, return to Chedworth with their gladiator arena. Morden Hall Park, London
This tranquil former deer park is one of the few remaining estates that used to line the River Wandle during its industrial heyday. The snuff mills that used to generate the park's income still survive to this day, and the renovated Stable Yard is the heart of the park with a café, second-hand bookshop and a living green centre with exhibitions. With the river meandering through the parkland, creating a haven for wildlife, this is a much-loved rural idyll to visit with your dad.

Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire

Levant Mine and Beam Engine, Cornwall
Levant Mine has a wealth of interesting history as a copper and tin mining site, with some artefacts dating right back to the Bronze Age. Now cared for by the National Trust this World Heritage site has the only beam engine anywhere in the world that is still in steam on its original mine site - perfect for dads with an interest in engineering. Restored after 60 idle years by a group of volunteers known as the 'Greasy Gang', it is a thrilling experience to see this old engine in action, with its evocative sounds and smells.

Fancy a chance to try breaking rocks using different types of hammers? Visit Levant Mine to find out what it was like to work as a balmaid or balboy, processing the copper ore.

Stackpole, Pembrokeshire
This magnificent National Nature Reserve makes a great day out for nature-loving dads. Stackpole lies within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and is famous for its lily ponds which are home to otters, swans and ducks. Knightshayes Court, Devon

Upton House and Gardens, Warwickshire
In 1939 Lord and Lady Bearsted vacated Upton, allowing the family-owned merchant bank to move in and escape the London air-raids. The evacuated staff set up a typing pool and canteen in the Long Gallery surrounded by Upton's great art collection. This year, the house has been transformed back to how it would have looked in 1939, with rooms re-created to reflect the time.
