The second instalment of Lady Luxury brings you a hotel review closer to home (at least, in the case of The Lady offices). If you have never travelled to London before or are looking for a luxurious weekend getaway, this accommodation may pique your interest.
The Andaz Liverpool Street, located right next to Liverpool Street station, is a five star luxury hotel owned by Hyatt. It's one of a few around the world, but there are only two located in Europe, the other residing in Amsterdam. It opened in 1884 as the Great Eastern Hotel and was one of London's original railway hotels, constructed by the architects that designed the Houses of Parliament in London. Although now the hotel continues to house in a Victorian building, the hotel is the epitome of modern luxury, and is minutes away from the bubbling vibrancy that is East London culture.
The hotel has approximately 267 rooms from boutique guest rooms to opulent suites filled with top quality amenities. The hotel also features seven restaurants, from the likes of the 1901 brasserie to authentic Japanese at Miyako. The Andaz also features 14 function rooms for events, weddings, meetings and more. You can start to grasp how large the hotel really is.

I was invited to try the hotel's latest package Bed, Flicks and Chill (a play on words from pop culture's 'Netflix and Chill'). It's every movie lover's wildest dreams: an opportunity to kick back and binge watch on unlimited in-room Blockbuster movies with a bottle of prosecco, ice cream created from the hotel's Head Pastry Chef, 25% off room service, complimentary snacks, complimentary English breakfast in the morning and more.
When I arrived at the hotel, I was greeted by attentive staff at a very atypical check in desk. The space seemed quite futuristic, almost a little maze-like. When I stepped out of the lift on the 4th floor to find my room, I was overwhelmed by the space. I overlooked the balcony railings to my left to see room windows, lounges, chairs, and a pool table before heading over an opaque glass 'bridge' to find my room.

I opted not to eat dinner in the hotel to get the most out of my stay in East London, but did head back to the room for room service dessert and more movies. It was a Sunday* after all, the perfect day in the perfect stay to be lazy. Room service was less than 20 minutes after I ordered sparkling water, a fruit smoothie, tiramisu and vanilla crème brulee topped with pastry twizzles and fruit. I was enveloped in food and movies and by 11pm gave into the comfortable bed that was lulling me to sleep.

I hastily woke to get to restaurant 1901 for breakfast (available between 6.30-10am), a large continental buffet spread with additional menu options to order. I had an eggs benedict and a little of everything from the buffet to try, and the food was inarguably exceptional. 1901 is a beautiful setting for breakfast too, with pristine marble floors, white columns and a painted glass dome.

I had a coffee before collecting my things from my room, tempted to hop back in for movie day two. Check out time is 12pm, so there was no rush. I had a look around the very professional looking health club before checking out, wishing I had allocated more time to try the gym, but the Bed, Flicks and Chill package had much more of a place on my agenda.
If you have a movie (and relaxing) loving friend, family member or partner, this package is the perfect gift.
*The package is only available on weekends
