What interested you in this film and why did you want to be a part of it?
LC: Well, it feels like a bit of a no brainer, wanting to be a part of this film, Robert Zemeckis, I'm like a crazy fan of his, BACK TO THE FUTURE, that alone. If he asked me to take out his garbage I would agree to it. And then obviously the cast is incredible. And so just the idea of getting to be a part of this wonderfully written movie. I was like uh, "Yeah, sign me up."
What makes it refreshing or different?
I think it actually feels like a bit of a throwback. We're shooting most of this on sound stages, it takes place in the forties. But it feels like one of those movies from days past, those big grand spy romances. So, I suppose it would feel familiar to certain people working this way, but it's unlike anything I've ever done.
Briefly, what is this movie about?
This movie is about two spies, played by Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, and they meet on a mission, and then they fall in love with each other. And they try to make a normal life, so we think, but one of them is potentially still up to, some spying.
Who plays Max? What do you enjoy about what he's doing with this role?
Brad Pitt plays Max, and he's a pretty good actor, and is very, a very nice guy, and he brings this kind of quiet confidence to the role that's really impressive. My first day shooting we shot the wedding party scene. And he, Brad picks Marion up, puts her down, kisses her as we're throwing confetti on both of them, and I caught a glimpse of the two of them in the monitor of the camera. And it was like "Oh, oh right, those are movie stars, proper movie stars." They're amazing. Watching them has been a very interesting learning experience for me.
The same question for the actress that plays Marianne.
I'm just a huge fan of hers. I think she's the most beautiful, and she also happens to be very cool.
Who is the director of this film and what is he like?
Robert Zemeckis directs this movie. He's a legend, certainly in my mind. It's funny meeting people that you've idolized for many years, and it can go a few different ways. Usually, unfortunately, you don't want to meet people that you look up to because they always disappoint you. That is not the case here. He's such a warm, kind guy.
He's been nothing but welcoming and lovely to me and he just reminds me of, you know, like one of my friend's dads or something. But he also happens to be such a master. I mean, so few people can claim that they've made perfect movies. And Bob Zemeckis absolutely can.
What do you find interesting about the dynamics of Max and Marianne's relationship?
It's very interesting to see a relationship like this on film because it's two people who meet as complete strangers, but they have to immediately pretend like they know each other extremely well. So, I think that'll be a very entertaining watch because they have to fake it from the beginning. And then, their real emotions catch up to this façade, and you truly believe that these two are made for each other. And then when there's the possibility that one of them is not being completely forthcoming, I hope that that will break people's hearts.
What do I have to look forward to when I see this film?
You can look forward to your heart being broken and then potentially repaired.
