A RIGHT ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHER
There must be more photographs of the Queen than any other person alive. And yet, as these wonderful images show, she also loves to take a few pictures of her own.
In fact, only hours before Princess Elizabeth – 60 years ago – heard the awful news that her beloved father, George VI, had died, she had been up a tree in Kenya filming rhinos on her cine camera. As one of the staff on that safari, Nahashan Mureithi, recently told royal biographer Robert Hardman, she was ‘just in love with all the animals’. Filming them was one of her true joys.
And it was a passion that has continued. At the races, out with her corgis – two of her other great loves – the Queen clearly enjoys seeing life through a lens. As does her son, Prince Andrew. Another budding royal snapper, he even published a book about his hobby in the 1980s.
