Spa Spa Away

While friends enthusiastically exalted the merits of relaxing in hydrotherapy pools, Jacuzzis and having massages, I was not to be swayed. The thought of lying somewhere and relaxing in peace? Most definitely not! But as the years went by I started to wonder what I might be missing out on.

Then, while attending a friend’s birthday, I found out what I had been missing, and oh how I wish I’d been less stubborn and more gung-ho sooner.

Since then, without hesitation, I have braved the hammam for a Turkish bath while on holidays abroad – great preparation for unwinding and creating the ultimate tan.

But even more enjoyable have been the times I have spent luxuriating in some of the select spas. At the last spa day I went to I found it difficult to leave the premises after nearly five hours – and that was without any treatments!

Now I too extol the benefits and merits of a top spa. You really can’t beat taking time out for yourself and enjoying good service, quality treatments and, where possible, amazing surroundings. If there was ever a time to seek out a spa then it is now, especially after – dare I say it – the C word (yes, Christmas).

Cast your net far and wide and delve into the possibilities offered by luxurious sanctuaries to rest, recuperate and regenerate.

To sit outside in cabana-style seating while looking out over a lake, or float on the heated water of an outdoor pool while taking in an Alpine landscape, or dipping a toe in a gold energy pool

… no hesitation. Yes please!
