Quartet
The year gets off to a cracking start with Dustin Hoffman’s star-stuffed directorial debut. Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon and Billy Connolly are among the squabbling divas in a home for retired opera singers, putting on a concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday. From 1 January.

Les Misérables
Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Russell Crowe step into the fray to try to do justice to the longestrunning musical ever. This is one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year. From 11 January.

Cloud Atlas
It needs ingenious creativity to bring David Mitchell’s multi-layered book to the screen – step forward the Wachowski siblings (The Matrix) and director Tom Tykwer, with support from a top-notch cast. Fingers crossed for this one. From 22 February.

Carrie
From Man Of Steel to The Lone Ranger, next year is packed with reboots. This version of the hit 1976 horror stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the bullied teenager, and Julianne Moore as her ghastly mother. Bloodily brilliant? Let’s hope so. From March/April.

The Great Gatsby
This gorgeous-looking adaptation from Moulin Rouge maestro Baz Luhrmann looks to pack even more of a big-budget wallop, and with better hair. Stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan From 17 May.
